Disney Plus is trying to entice customers with a cheap subscription deal ahead of a price hike. The limited time offer is for three months of the streaming service for £2 a month, which amounts to a total saving of £18 or 75 per cent.

Disney is running the streaming promotion over the next two weeks and once the discounted period ends in December customers will be paying the new higher subscription prices. That’s because in November the company is introducing the biggest shake-up to the UK streaming service since its launch in 2020.

As part of the overhaul, Brits will have three plans to choose from instead of one, each with different benefits and drawbacks based on your preferences. Whereas subscribers currently pay £8 a month, the cost of this tier will jump to £11 a month, when it will be known as Disney Plus Premium.

If you don’t want to pay more, you can drop down to the Disney Plus Standard plan for £8. But, you’ll have to be prepared to sacrifice higher quality 4K streaming for 1080p video streams, aka full HD.

Standard subscribers can also only stream two instances of Disney Plus at once, not four. And while there’s surround-sound support, you can’t stream Dolby Atmos audio.

A basic plan with adverts will also land on November 1, which at £5 costs the same as Netflix with ads.

Disney was founded on October 16, 1923 by brothers Walt Disney and Rob Disney as Disney Brothers Studio and this year is therefore its centenary. Several name changes later, it settled on the Walt Disney Company as its moniker in 1986.

These days the company is known as much for its mega-franchises, like Marvel and Star Wars, as its animated fare. Meanwhile, Disney Plus has gained more entertainment for grown-ups following the company’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox in 2019. So, while the kids are watching Encanto, you can binge the latest seasons of acclaimed shows The Bear and Only Murders in the Building.
