A new app that allows people to get feedback and rate photographs anonymously has had 13,000 downloads in its first eight days.
Verdict was created by two London A-level students who have been involved in internet projects before. They say the anonymous nature of the opinions means you get a truly impartial view.
Designed by Reid Jackson and built by Harry Elliott, both 18, the app allows users to “like” or “dislike” pictures or post images to be judged by others without revealing their identity.
Unlike apps such as Instagram, which is about following individuals, on Verdict users search anonymous pictures by subject.
They can scroll through images based on themes such as “men’s fashion”, “shoes” and “art and design” — pressing the “thumbs up” button if they like it and “thumbs down” if they don’t.
To post a picture users upload the picture of the object in question, tagging it to a subject area, and wait for reactions to roll in.
Reid, of South Kensington, said he made the app anonymous because he wants people to be able to judge other people’s pictures and have their own pictures judged without taking into account the person behind it.
Reid added: “The problem with the internet is it’s too social, it’s a reaction to you rather than a reaction to the picture. For Verdict the real goal is to allow people to ask questions, get advice, without people having to associate themselves with it.”
