If you’ve been playing the new Fallout 76 beta on PC then watch out – a recent bug managed to delete the entirety of the 50GB game from some gamers' PCs.

Fallout 76’s creators, Bethesda, took to Twitter last night to warn gamers about the mishap. The studio told players to “not click any buttons on the client for the time being” which sounds vaguely terrifying.

The studio says it has been actively investigating the issue which was forcing players to re-download the beta. As a result, it has extended the Fallout 76 beta so gamers have the chance to get as much out of the game.

The whole point of the beta, or as Bethesda called it “break-it early test application”, is a chance to iron out issues in the game before it goes on sale in November, so it is understandable that things will go wrong. The studio allows players to offer feedback on parts of the game so that when Fallout 76 is finally released in two weeks, it works like magic.

It must have been disappointing for fans to stop gameplay because of the bug. It’s been three years since the last Fallout game, Fallout 4, was released so fans have been waiting a long time. The new instalment is a prequel to the original game, released in the '90s, so Fallout 76 will offer clues as to how the Fallout universe came to be.

New updates to Fallout 76 include a map which is four times larger than Fallout 4, so there are many more places to explore, as well as being the first multiplayer online-only game in the Fallout universe, a big moment for Bethesda.

From the trailers and images we’ve seen so far, it does look pretty spectacular.

Now gamers have a little longer to test out the beta before getting their full fill of the game on 14 November.
