Secretive tech start-up Magic Leap has officially unveiled its first set of augmented reality goggles – and they’ll get their first release next year.

The Magic Leap One headset has been long-teased, promising an advanced take on AR.

The headset is getting a ‘Creator Edition’ in 2018, allowing developers to get on board with the augmented reality platform and to start creating software for it.

The initial hardware includes a ‘Lightwear’ headset, a ‘Lightpack’ wearable computer, and a handheld controller.

“I am so excited to share with all of you a first look at Magic Leap One, Creator Edition,” wrote the company’s founder Rony Abovitz in a blog post.

“We will be shipping in 2018, so stay tuned for more events, info on how to buy, the opening of our creator/developer portal, and just more cool and fun stuff.”

While the first images of the Magic Leap One have been unveiled with the announcement, it seems the look of the headset could change as the website notes: "Product is continually advancing and may be different at time of shipment."

The augmented reality headset is set to offer software for gaming, entertainment and computing.

Magic Leap will find themselves going head to head with some tech giants who are also working on AR advancements. Microsoft is developing its HoloLens headset, while Apple is said to be working on AR hardware after launching ARKit on iOS this year.
