In between appearances as Arya Stark in hit show Game of Thrones and rave performances in London’s theatres, actor Maisie Williams also heads up a new social platform called Daisie.

Designed to connect creatives, the platform wants to revolutionise the way young people use social media by helping them gain exposure in the industry as well as connect them with mentors.

“Daisie is founded on the belief that pushing forward together, with a shared vision, is what sparks creativity and drives change. It's our purpose to bring creators together and support them to do amazing work,” according to the website’s mission statement.

Williams leads the platform alongside CEO Dom Santry.

Last year, when the app was initially announced during its beta phase, it was all clean white backgrounds and distinctly Instagram-influenced. Now that Daisie is out of beta the yellow accents have been wiped away for an edgier look, complete with a sharp new logo.

And it’s not just an app – the platform can be accessed via a browser too, presumably so it's easier to work cross-platform on the go, which all creatives will know is necessary. There’s no Android app at the moment, just strictly iOS for now.

It’s not easy to launch a new social platform. Many come and go, such as Peach, Kik, and even Google+ which died a death earlier this year. Hopefully, Daisie will hit upon a niche that needs filling, a platform for people to showcase their work without the boastful nature of Instagram, or the strictly corporate speak of LinkedIn.

One element that Williams promised during beta last year was that there would be no follower counts on the platform. At the time, she told TechCrunch: “If you have follower accounts it then becomes about a competition, like a popularity contest between who can get the most.”

Given that the other social platforms like Instagram are reportedly looking to remove the visible like count on posts, it seems like Daisie was on to something early on.

Now the platform is out of its beta phase, anyone can join and start displaying their work. The only advice from Williams herself? 'Enjoy. Play nice.'
