One of the top Chinese smartphone makers is about to release a new phone into the world.

OnePlus, which made it into the top five premium smartphone brands in the world last year according to Counterpoint, is holding an event in India this week, where it is expected to unveil its new 7T Series.

We know the company is definitely releasing a OnePlus 7T, and we’re hoping to see a follow up to this year’s OnePlus 7 Pro but we’ll have to wait for that.

OnePlus 7T: launch date and release date

OnePlus is holding a launch event in India this week, September 26, to showcase the new 7T series.

However, there could still be a few tricks up its sleeve yet. The tech company is also going to be throwing another launch event in London at Magazine on October 10 as the global launch party.

Speaking about the London event, OnePlus’s CEO and founder of OnePlus said: “I’m really excited to hear what our users think of the OnePlus 7T series.”

The new devices are usually on sale a few weeks after the launch event so we’re hoping they are on sale around October time.

OnePlus 7T: Design

For the first time, OnePlus has already announced the design of the 7T over on its forum. Lau posted a blog post last week to discuss the ideas behind the new design.

“Exceptional design isn't just about the things you see, but also about the little things that you don't even notice. It's about everything being in the right place, creating a fast, smooth, seamless, and fluid experience,” he said.

The new OnePlus 7T will have three camera lenses on the back in a circular design. Lau says this is because it achieves “perfect symmetry from any orientation”, balancing the different lenses in the design. Huawei has also opted for a circular camera set-up, demonstrating that this is a new trend in smartphone design this year.

Elsewhere, it looks like the new 7T has a frosted glass back, similar to the 7 Pro released earlier this year, with a gradient blue shade, whilst OnLeaks believes the phone will include a teardrop notch on the front.

Other rumours suggest the 7T will have a 6.55-inch display, bigger than the OnePlus 7 with a 6.41-inch screen and it will have the 90Hz refresh rate on the 7 Pro meaning the screen is extremely fast and responsive.

We’re not sure exactly how the OnePlus 7T Pro will look but according to the leaks, it looks to have a similar vertical camera design on the back of the phone, as well as an uninterrupted screen with a pop-up selfie camera. It’s also expected to have a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with the 90Hz rate, as well as an in-screen fingerprint sensor.

OnePlus 7T: Camera

We know the OnePlus 7T has three lenses on the back, up from the dual lenses on the 7. This is expected to be a 48MP main sensor, along with a 16MP sensor and 12MP sensor. OnePlus is also rumoured to be improving the phone’s camera software for portrait and night vision shots in particular.

With the new iPhone 11 range, Apple has considerably improved its night mode for taking shots in the dark, showcasing that this is a new battleground for smartphone photography.

Over on the 7T Pro, the phone is expected to have a 48-MP main camera, 16MP ultra-wide camera, and an 8MP telephoto camera, along with a 16MP telephoto camera just like on the 7 Pro.

OnePlus 7T: Power and performance

The design and camera aspects of the new phones are fairly similar to the previous OnePlus 7 range, but it's inside of the phones where this differs. The new 7 Series is expected to feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ chipset.

Announced in June this year, hardly any phones are sporting this new processor yet which promises to offer improved graphics and performance, an upgraded AI engine which is good for the proposed camera software changes, as well as substantial 4G and 5G connectivity. This is good news if OnePlus brings out a new 5G version to go with the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G.

The OnePlus 7T is expected to be available in two version: 6GB of RAM with 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage. The battery could also get an upgrade to 3,800 mAh. According to TechRadar, the 7T will have a new Warp Charge 30T charger, which will charge the device 23 per cent faster.

When it comes to the 7T Pro, rumours say there will be only one variant, with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage, and a battery size of 4,085 mAh.

OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro: price

Prices for the OnePlus 7 started at £499 so it’s likely the prices will be similar or maybe a little bit more for the 7T given the improvements in camera, design and battery.

When it comes to the 7T Pro, the 7 Pro was available for a very affordable £649 for the 6GB/128GB storage variant and £699 for the 8GB/256GB version so expect the prices to be around this ballpark figure too.

Excited for the OnePlus 7T series? We’ll be reporting on the new devices when they launch and reviewing them so be sure to check back to Standard.co.uk/tech to keep up with the news.
