Following the confirmation of its production earlier this week, fans have got their first look at Red Dead Redemption 2.

Rockstar Games have debuted the first trailer for the hotly-anticipated Western video game sequel, and it shows off some stunning graphics.

Rather than focusing on action and plot, the clip reveals the stunning vistas that players will be exploring.

There are expansive woodlands, rolling corn fields, misty riverbanks and railroads playing home to roaming buffalo – all beautifully rendered for the current gen of consoles.

Beyond that, there’s a glimpse of our (anti)hero standing in a flaming wreckage, and a gang of horse-riding bandits dashing off into the distance, accompanied by an ominous voiceover.

“Listen to me,” it says. “When the time comes, you gotta run and don’t look back. This is over.”

While it’s not much to go on at the minute, the prospect of the Grand Theft Auto creators returning to their Wild West playground is a hugely exciting one.

With the graphics already showing a huge leap from six years ago, fans will have a year to wait and see where else the franchise has advanced.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will arrive on Xbox One and PS4 in Fall 2017, and Xbox One players can re-live the original game through the console’s backwards compatibility feature.
