She's back! Sally Bercow returns to Twitter

Speaker's wife Sally Bercow has reactivated her Twitter account after she closed it following a string of high-profile blunders.

She deleted it a week ago but now says she is “humbly” bringing it back as she has learned lessons and “will not screw up again”. Last night she tweeted: “Humbly reactivating account on #Levesoneve *grabs tinsel & mince pies* coz learnt lesson, miss Twitter & will not screw up again. Hello!”

She later said: “Better add *fingers crossed* to last tweet actually...”

Mrs Bercow closed her account after naming a British schoolgirl protected by a court order.

This blunder came on the heels of an error a fortnight earlier when she used the site to erroneously name former Tory treasurer Lord McAlpine following a BBC Newsnight report about child abuse.

On November 4, she posted: “Why is Lord McAlpine trending? innocent face.”

The breaches prompted calls for her to “turn off Twitter” to avoid any more legal problems.

Lord McAlpine, not named on Newsnight but identified quickly online, was the innocent victim of mistaken identity.

He got £125,000 from ITV after Phillip Schofield brandished names of alleged child abusers during an interview with David Cameron and £185,000 from the BBC.

His lawyers confirmed they are still pursuing damages from Twitter users who tweeted libellous allegations.
