A week ago, Snapchat rolled out a redesign intended to ‘separate’ interactions from friends with branded content.

In a blog post, Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel wrote that previously combining the two had contributed to the rise of fake news.

However, over one million people have signed a petition asking Snapchat to roll back its latest redesign, claiming it is hard to use.

In the UK, more than 25 per cent of smartphone users are on Snapchat and it is one of the most popular forms of social media for the teenage demographic.

The petition posted on change.org was started by Australian man Nic Rumsey who said that many users are resorting to VPN apps to get rid of the new design and get back to the old Snapchat as “that’s how annoying this new update has become”.

He added that many of the new features defeat the original purposes of Snapchat.

Celebrities have also voiced their concerns over the changes as Snapchat is a platform that has helped many of them build their brand and keep them relatable to fans.

Twitter user Courtney Coffman tweeted model Chrissy Teigen: “I’m not happy with this new @Snapchat update... I have to search for @chrissyteigen instead of her being right there when I open up the app. All I want is to watch her make food & talk to her like she can hear me. It’s like I’ve lost a friend.”

Chrissy retweeted the tweet and added: “I’m seeing this same comment so often. I liked that you guys felt like we were friends. I’m sad it doesn’t feel like that anymore. How many people have to hate an update for it to be reconsidered?”

New mum Kylie Jenner posed the questions to her Twitter followers as well, asking them: “Just saw the new Snapchat.. I don’t know how I feel about it! What do you guys think?”

One of her followers replied saying they hated it and wanted the old one to come back, to which Kylie said that she agrees.

Despite the petition, Snapchat has no plans to remove the redesign. The company said in a statement: “Updates as big as this one can take a little getting used to, but we hope the community will enjoy it once they settle in.”
