British Airways will resume flights to Cairo after temporarily halting the service last week due to security concerns.

The airline cancelled flights from London Heathrow to the Egyptian capital on Saturday night.

German-based carrier Lufthansa made a similar move, with both companies issuing statements which cited security concerns.

According to the Heathrow website, the BA 155 flight between the two cities is running to time on Friday and is set to leave at 5.20pm.

BA said flights would be suspended for seven days while "further assessment" of security arrangements at Cairo airport took place.

Lufthansa said its own flights were suspended shortly after, citing "an unclear security situation", but resumed service to the Egyptian capital on Sunday.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office updated its online Egypt travel advice page to mention BA's suspension of flights but has not changed its guidance or added any specific warnings.
