Commuters travelling through Kings Cross station have been left stranded on hot trains after power was cut due to a trespasser on the line.

The trespasser climbed onto wires outside of the station, causing all lines at both Kings Cross and Kings Cross St Pancras to be closed and the air-conditioning turned off.

The lines have since reopened however both Thameslink and Northern Rail have warned of delays of up to an hour.

Many people took to social media to share their experience getting home.

Sophie Morris said that she had waited an hour at St Pancras for a train and had seen two people faint.

She added that three trains had been cancelled while two others were packed full of passengers.

Images from both Kings Cross and Kings Cross St Pancras stations show the sheer number of people waiting to board a train to get home.

Helen Ellis said that it was "absolute chaos" at Kings Cross and added: "I know trespassers cause major issues but that's no excuse for the unintelligible mumbling announcements."

Hull Trains confirmed that one of its trains was started from Peterborough instead of Kings Cross due to the trespasser on the line.

While Peterborough Trains warned that there was still a long queue for platforms at Kings Cross.

The incident also delayed trains leaving from Moorgate station and Alexandra Palace.
