District and Circle line delays: Two major Tube lines suspended after man hit by train

Patrick Grafton-Green8 January 2018

Two major Tube lines have been suspended after a man was hit by a train in central London.

Commuters on the District and Circle lines faced severe disruption on Monday after the incident at Mansion House.

Chaotic scenes were reported at a number of stations as swathes of both lines were shut down at about 8.30am.

The man didn't suffer any serious injuries and has been taken to hospital to be checked over, a BTP spokesman said.

Tube services were suspended across the whole of Circle line and there was no service on the District line between Earl's Court and Aldgate East.

Services have since resumed but severe delays are being reported on both lines.

A statement posted on TfL's website said the disruption was "due to a person on the track".

One person tweeted: “Person under a train at Mansion House - district and circle lines both suspended.

“3 fire engines, 2 ambulances and a police emergency response unit in attendance.”

A BTP spokesman said: "We were called at 8.24am after a man was hit by a train at Mansion House.

"Officers attended along with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service.

"The man has been taken to hospital to be checked over."

Elsewhere there were severe delays on the Piccadilly line between Acton Town and Heathrow and Uxbridge due to an earlier signal failure at King’s Cross.
