Londoners attempting to leave the city for Christmas have faced travel chaos at Euston due to a trespasser on the tracks.

Trains out of the busy travel hub were delayed and cancelled from around 7pm on Thursday.

Network Rail confirmed lines had been closed after a trespasser was spotted on tracks near Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire.

Stranded passengers took to social media to discuss the delays.

Lucy Jane Sargeant wrote: “There's barely any room left at Euston for us to cram in.”

Tom Marsland added: “Every train out of Euston delayed. Merry f****** Christmas.”

And Lucy Clarke said: “At Euston. Preparing for the train apocalypse.”

Lines were reopened shortly after 8.15pm but Network Rail warned services could be delayed by up to 30 minutes.

A statement posted on their website read: “The trespass incident at Hemel Hempstead has been resolved and all lines have reopened.

“However, there may still be delays of up to 30 minutes to services between Watford Junction and Milton Keynes Central, whilst the service recovers.

“It is expected that a normal service will resume at approximately 9pm.”
