Euston station delays: Rush hour chaos for commuters after man hit by train

Rush hour commuters faced severe disruption at one of London's busiest rail stations today after a man was hit by train.

Euston station was brought to a standstill after the man was struck by a train during the evening rush hour.

All train services were suspended into and out of the station shortly after 6.20pm.

The disruption was expected to last until the end of services with cancellations and delays of up to 95 minutes.

British Transport Police said the man was treated at the scene by paramedics for injuries to his leg before being taken to hospital.

London Midland, Virgin Trains and London Overground, which operates services on the affected route, said all lines had been blocked while emergency services dealt with the incident.

Crowds of commuters gathered beneath the departure boards while they waited for information about departures.

Pictures taken at the station and posted on social media show hundreds of commuters packed onto the concourse.

Sinem Bilen-Onabanjo tweeted: "Current situation at Euston after a person hit by train on the tracks. Standstill."

David Nisbit wrote: "No departures from Euston Station until further notice."

Darren Pickering said: "Chaos in Euston tonight. All trains stopped due to an incident."

A statement on the National Rail website said: "Emergency services are dealing with an incident between London Euston and Watford Junction causing major disruption to journeys between these stations.

"Services may be cancelled, or delayed by up to 60 minutes."

A British Transport Police spokesman said: "We were called to an area close to London Euston station at 6.09pm on Wednesday, November 23, following reports of a person being struck by a train.

"Our officers attended along with colleagues from the London Ambulance Service and a man was treated at the scene by paramedics for injuries to his leg before being taken to hospital.

"An investigation is ongoing into how the man came to be on the tracks."
