A huge crowd of people was forced to wait outside Brixton station during this morning's rush hour when it was closed amid reports of broken escalators.

A huge crowd formed on the street outside the station at around 9am today.

Faulty escalators were the cause, according to reports online. No further details were immediately available from TfL.

Commuters waiting outside in the rain grew increasingly frustrated by the lack of information.

Cass Gowing, social media strategist, said: “This morning's delay at Brixton station was particularly frustrating due to the lack of information available regarding why the station was limiting the number of people entering.

“I checked the @victorialine Twitter account and there was no update on what caused the part closure.

"I saw they had replied to many Twitter users mentioning overcrowding but they responded to my tweet blaming a faulty escalator. Today's delay meant I was late to the office and my morning commute took well over an hour.”
