Man dies after being hit by train at level-crossing in south-west London

A man has died after being hit by a train at a level crossing in south-west London.

Emergency services were at the scene by Mortlake station this afternoon following the incident at about noon.

A British Transport Police said: “We were called to Mortlake station at approximately 11.50am on Tuesday, 5 April following reports of a person being struck by a train.

“Officers from BTP, Metropolitan Police and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service also attended where a man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are currently working to identify the man and inform his family.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

South West Trains said services were being diverted via different routes and warned the incident may cause disruption until 3pm.

A spokesman said: “Emergency services are dealing with an incident between Barnes and Richmond, causing disruption to trains between Clapham Junction and Richmond.”

Passengers have been told they may use London Underground and bus services to complete their journeys.
