A moped rider was rushed to hospital after a crash in Edgware Road.

The man, believed to be in his 30s, suffered back and neck injuries in the smash at about 2.20pm this afternoon.

He collided with a car near to the junction with Broadley Street, not far from Edgware Road Tube station. The northbound lane was temporarily closed to traffic and has since reopened.

A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said: "We sent an ambulance crew to the scene and treated a man reported to be in his 30's for arm, back and neck injuries.

"He was taken to St Mary's hospital as a priority."

More than 27,000 people were injured in road accidents in London in 2013. Transport for London last week announced a trial of 20mph speed limits on major London roads in a bid to reduce that figure.
