A station on the London Overground rail network appeared to be accidentally renamed today - after official signs went up containing a spelling error.

Rail workers were seen putting up erroneous new signs at Theobalds Grove today, which gave the station's name as 'Theobolds' Grove.

It appears nobody at Transport for London noticed the extra 'o' and missing 'a', but thankfully one eagle-eyed passenger spotted the mistake.

A photo tweeted by @diamondgeezer this afternoon was shared dozens of times by Twitter users who branded the work "shoddy" and joked: "There's a graphic designer awaiting a P45."

Some users including Nico Hogg pointed out it was not the first time rail bosses have grappled with the spelling of this particular station.

Theobalds Grove, which lies just outside the M25 in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, was getting new signs after becoming part of the London Overground network.

Lines from Liverpool Street to Enfield Town, Cheshunt and Chingford were all added to the Overground map today.

A Transport for London spokeswoman said: "We are aware that a small number of misspelt signs were put up for a short period of time at Theobalds Grove today.

"They have been removed and are being replaced with the correct signage."
