A person has died after being hit by a train at a busy west London station connecting the capital with Heathrow Airport this afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Southall station just after 2pm following reports of the incident.

A spokesman for British Transport Police confirmed officers and paramedics had been called to the station.

He said: "Officers are on scene alongside the London Ambulance Service however a person has sadly been pronounced dead.

"We are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

"We are not treating this incident as suspicious."

Following the incident, trains from Paddington towards Reading and Heathrow Airport have been delayed by up to an hour.

Disruption on Great Western Railway, Heathrow Connect and Heathrow Express services is estimated to continue until around 4.30pm.
