Thousands of commuters were stranded after a man jumped onto tracks and waved at the driver of an oncoming train.

Rush-hour services into London were cancelled or delayed after the scare at Gordon Hill railway station in Enfield.

The man stood on the tracks waving his arms and was 10 feet away from the train when he jumped out of the way and disappeared.

Trains were cancelled yesterday morning while police searched the area. They did not find the man.

Roger Perkins, spokesman for First Capital Connect said: “This was a very near hit and a shocking experience for our driver who was shaken by what he had witnessed.”
