Commuters are facing severe rush hour delays on the entire Victoria line after a trespasser made it onto the tracks.

All trains southbound between Walthamstow Central and King’s Cross were suspended just after 4pm while police dealt with the trespasser at Seven Sisters station.

There were “severe delays” on the rest of the line at 5pm as hundreds of thousands of Londoners headed home from their first day back at work following the May bank holiday.

The Victoria Line posted on Twitter: “Severe delays on the entire line following a trespasser on the track at Seven Sisters.”

The delays increased after a train operator was taken ill, the line’s official Twitter account later added.

Tickets were being accepted on local buses.

It comes a week after the Victoria line increased its capacity in order to run a train every 100 seconds during peak morning and evening hours.

Tube bosses said the line would carry an extra 3,000 passengers an hour at the busiest times.

The new timetable, introduced on May 22, is the culmination of a £900 million upgrade of the line including new trains and much improved stations.

With 36 trains an hour the Victoria line – from Brixton to Walthamstow Central – now offers one of the most frequent services in the world and beaten only by the Moscow Metro which runs trains every 95 seconds.
