Victoria Line customers were stranded on trains on Tuesday night after power failures sparked severe delays across the service.

Just before 8pm the line’s Twitter account reported no service between Kings Cross and Walthamstow and severe delays on the rest of the line after a power failure in Highbury and Islington.

Furious passengers were left waiting in Tubes and on platforms for over an hour as the line ground to a halt.

Some shared their frustration on social media, criticising the “shambolic” Tube network.

One disgruntled customer wrote: “Hour added onto journey home due to failure to jump start the Victoria Line. Most expensive public transport system on earth. Disgrace.”

Another commented: “Just spent half an hour in a Victoria line tunnel how's your night going?”

And one person posted a message to Transport for London saying: “Hey @TfL. Was stuck on the Victoria Line for ages (including 20 mins in the tunnel outside Warren St). Number of apologies from driver? Zero.”

The delays were set to coincide with the end of the Arsenal match at the Emirates ground, which would see thousands of fans descend on Highbury & Islington station.

Tickets are being accepted on other routes.
