Furious passengers faced rush hour chaos as all Southeastern trains between two major London transport hubs were delayed and cancelled due to a faulty train.

Huge crowds formed on the concourse at Charing Cross on Tuesday evening as a faulty train between the station and London Bridge sparked major disruption.

Bemused passengers took to social media to express their annoyance as two-minute journeys between Charing Cross and Waterloo East took up to an hour.

Bexley Councillor Joe Ferreira said he had waited at least an hour to travel between the stations and branded the delays a “shambles”.

Another user added: “Absolute mare at Charing Cross.”

Lewis Glynn joked: "I suggested that we all have a pancake party at Charing Cross, but no amount of pancake party could quell the rage."

Oliver Brooks branded the situation “absolute anarchy”.

A statement posted on Southeastern’s website read: “Because of a fault on a train at Waterloo East trains between London Charing Cross and London Bridge have been disrupted.

“Services may be amended or have short notice platform changes.

“An engineer is on site and the faulty unit is expected to be moved very soon. Until it has moved trains will continue to have short notice platform changes and alterations.”
