An adorable Beluga whale has been filmed bonding with the crew of a passing boat by playing fetch with a World Cup Rugby ball.

The amazing video footage shows a fan of World Cup winning nation South Africa throwing a ball for the aquatic mammal to fetch near the Arctic.

The man was on board the South African Gemini Craft boat in the Arctic Ocean.

He is seen throwing the ball for the animal to bring back. The whale swims over to the ball and returns to the boat with it.

Belugas are social creatures, and live together in pods according to National Geographic.

The video has been viewed more than one million times since it was uploaded to Facebook.

Last year, a beluga whale was spotted swimming in the Thames, west of Gravesend in Kent.

The whale, nicknamed Benny, is believed to have lived in the Thames estuary for around three months, and was last seen in December 2018.
