Alesha Dixon is said to be “sick with worry” after her younger brother was seriously injured in a horror car crash that killed his best friend.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge’s brother John Lonergan, 30, was a passenger when friend James Bartell reportedly lost control at the wheel and smashed into trees.

Mr Bartell, 29, died at the scene in Welwyn, Hertfordshire, after crashing his Ford Ka on Sunday evening, The Sun reported.

Mr Lonergan is “lucky to be alive” after being badly injured in the incident.

He was rushed to hospital where he is in a serious but stable condition.

A source close to The Sun said: “She is sick with worry about her brother John.

"He is badly injured but is lucky to be alive.”

He has reportedly suffered broken ribs and a broken collar bone, and is said to be “devastated” about the death of his good friend.

Delivery man Mr Bartell leaves behind a young son and daughter with 32-year-old girlfriend Anna-Marie Kelly.

Police said they were investigating the cause of the crash, which occurred at about 5pm on Sunday.

PC Jackie Lister said: "I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it, to please contact me.

"I am conscious that many drivers these days have dash cams fitted to their vehicles and may have captured the vehicle being driven immediately prior to the collision.

"If anyone has footage, this may prove useful to the investigation. Please contact me on Hertfordshire Constabulary's non-emergency number 101 so that I can review it."
