Amazon responds to backlash over ad that 'ruined' Christmas

Amazon has responded to backlash over a festive advert which implied Father Christmas does not bring children presents, after angry viewers claimed it had “ruined” Christmas.

The online retailer’s seasonal ad features a dad sneaking up the stairs with an armful of gifts in Amazon boxes.

Titled “Give a Little Bit”, the ad then shows the dad hiding the presents in a back room.

But some parents were left outraged by the absence of Santa in the 30 second clip. Taking to Twitter to voice their fury, viewers claimed the advert had spoiled the magic of Christmas for children.

One questioned how families were supposed to “keep our kids believing in Santa”.

Another branded the ad “the year’s worst Christmas advert”.

In a statement to The Daily Mail, an Amazon spokesperson responded to the backlash.

"Father Christmas and his elves are no doubt working around the clock to get presents to girls and boys around the world.

They added the gifts were “just a few extra to give a little love from parents.”
