Arcade Fire have revealed they will be headlining next summer's Glastonbury Festival.

The Canadian art rockers confirmed today that they are "super-excited to strap on our wellies" to top the bill on the Pyramid Stage on Friday night.

Speaking on BBC Radio 1, singer Win Butler said: "It's great. There's such a communal right of passage in the UK and a very communal spirit in the whole thing."

The slot comes in the midst of the band's huge planned world tour, which includes two dates in London weeks before the festival.

"It will be at a point of touring where we will be scarily good, I think. I mean, I hope," Butler said.

"We are super excited to strap on our wellies and let it rip."

It will be the first time the band have headlined the festival, which is due to take place from June 25 to June 29.

Tickets sold out within minutes when they were put on sale in October, despite no headliners being revealed at the time. The remaining line-up is yet to be released, but rumoured artists include David Bowie and Prince.
