The family of a Harrow schoolboy who died after he was attacked outside a club in a Greek party town today paid tribute to a “wonderful and much loved son.”

Archie Lloyd, 18, died hours after a row where he fell and hit his head on the pavement outside a nightclub in Malia, on the island of Crete.

Greek police believe he refused medical treatment by paramedics and hailed a taxi to return to his hotel in Sissi, around four miles away.

He was found dead a short time later at the hotel by his friends.

Police on the island have launched an investigation and charged 22-year-old British bar worker and model Sebastian Trabucatti with gross negligence leading to manslaughter.

Today Archie’s devastated family have asked friends to donate money towards an unspecified “legacy fund” set up in Archie’s memory ahead of a private funeral at Winchester Cathedral on Thursday.

A death notice from the family said: “He was a wonderful and much loved son of James and Claire and adored brother of Hector, Hugo, Kitty and Flora. He will be missed terribly by all his family and friends.”

His father James Lloyd, 51, a director of business development and marketing at London-based investment firm Mayfair Capital, and his mother Claire, 52, declined to comment from their £4million farmhouse in Micheldever, Hampshire, last night.

A post-mortem examination showed the teenager suffered a severe head injuries including bleeding on the brain.

The nightclub where the row took place featured in the 2011 Inbetweeners film and is a magnet for young British holidaymakers during the summer months.

Archie had been on holiday to celebrate the end of his A-levels at the prestigious £36,000 a year independent school and was due to collect his results days later.

He was a popular and outgoing pupil at Harrow where he played football for his first XI and cricket for The Head Master’s house.

Former classmate at Harrow Gianluca Gian Radesic said: “We sat next to each other in maths at Harrow. Archie was an extremely vibrant character.

“He thoroughly enjoyed his football and often involved himself in heated debates. He was a boy with strong views and lived by the values he preached.

“He truly was a special, influential and talented friend. He will be sorely missed.”

Friends also paid tribute on social media in the wake of Archie’s death.

One friend said: “I can’t believe this has happened he was a beautiful person inside and out so loyal and honest. Always put a smile on my face and made me laugh.”

Another said: “Always so tragic when anyone passes away but so heart breaking at 18 and to such a lovely boy, RIP.”

An inquest has been opened and adjourned until February next year at Winchester Coroners’ Court.

A statement from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (FCO) said: “We can confirm the death of a British national in Crete on 6 August.

“We are providing consular assistance to the family at this difficult time.”

Mr Trabucatti, from East Grinstead, West Sussex, has been released on bail and ordered to remain on the island.

He must report to police twice a month until a court case begins next year.
