Army in Iraq safety move for Harry

12 April 2012

The Army is making preparations to protect Prince Harry as he prepares to deploy to Iraq, it is reported.

Harry is due to leave for a tour of duty with the Household Cavalry Regiment in early June, according to The Sun newspaper.

The Metropolitan Police protection officer assigned to him has already flown to Iraq to discuss his security while in a war zone, the newspaper reported.

A source told The Sun: "It is the mother of all security nightmares."

A Ministry of Defence spokesman said reports about arrangements to ensure Harry's safety in Iraq were "a bit premature and very speculative".

He added: "We have not even said which units are going to Iraq yet. The situation is the same as it has always been.

"Either the Prime Minister or one of the defence ministers will update the house at some point.

"Until then we are not in a position to even look at this."
