The body of an 11-year-old boy has been pulled from a canal in south Yorkshire.
Specialist police teams recovered the body of the youngster in Rotherham Canal late last night.
A search operation began yesterday evening after officers received a report that a boy had entered the water at about 7pm but quickly disappeared.
A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “Specialist resources attended the scene, including South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and the Ambulance Service.
“The body of the 11-year-old was found in the water at around 11pm.
“His family has been informed and are being supported by officers.
“The circumstances are under investigation.”
The incident comes days after three Londoners drowned in just 24 hours on the hottest day of the year.
Leon Wilson, 21, fell into Lammas Lake near Staines in west London at 5.50pm on Tuesday as he walked with friends to the nearby Lammas waterpark.
The tragic accident happened around two hours before a 44-year-old man from south-west London drowned off Brighton beach.
The third fatality happened at lunchtime on Wednesday when a 29-year-old man enjoying the sunshine with two friends drowned in Shadwell Basin, Wapping.
Other deaths in the heatwave include 16-year-old Jack Pullen drowned on Tuesday having got into trouble while swimming with friends in a river in Broadbottom, near Hyde in Greater Manchester.
While on Monday night a man aged 46 drowned after jumping into the River Trent in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire.
