The body of a British teenager who went missing after a night out has been found in a French ski resort.
Kieron Flux, 18, of Newport on the Isle of Wight, was on holiday with family and friends in Val d’Isère when he went missing on Tuesday.
The keen snowboarder was last seen leaving a bar in the resort at 1.30am but did not return to the chalet.
Police and mountain rescuers began searching for him on Tuesday. His body was found by a police helicopter at around 2.30pm yesterday in the Gorges de la Daille.
The steep and isolated spot is situated between the La Daille area of the resort, where the Olympic downhill run finishes, and the Chevril lake.
Kieron had been in a bar in the centre of the resort. The area where his body was found is in the opposite direction to where he was staying.
At night temperatures have plummeted to -10C.
Kieron, an apprentice plumber, attended Carisbrooke High School and more recently Isle of Wight College.
His party had arrived in the resort last Sunday, and were spending a week in a chalet booked through a tour operator in the Fornet area.
Police have opened an investigation into Kieron’s death.
Val d’Isère is in south-east France, near the border with Italy. It regularly hosts World Cup alpine events and is a favourite with British skiers.
The Foreign Office has confirmed the death of a British national in France. A spokeswoman said: “We are providing consular assistance to the family.”
