A body has been pulled from water in Hampshire five days after a man fell from a ferry at Portsmouth Harbour.

Hampshire Police said the body is believed to be that of a 58-year-old man from Southsea who fell from a ferry travelling from Portsmouth to Fishbourne on the Isle of Wight last week.

His family has been informed of the development, a spokeswoman added.

Officers from the Ministry of Defence Police service recovered the body in water near the harbour’s Haslar Wall.

It comes after passengers on the Wightlink ferry services reported a man went overboard around 10.30am last Wednesday.

The Hampshire Police spokeswoman added: “The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.”
