Boy, 16, dies in London stab attack

12 April 2012

The latest victim of a knife attack on Britain's streets is a 16-year-old boy, police have revealed.

The youth, who has not been named, has become the fifth teenager murdered in London this year, and the fourth in a knife attack.

The attack happened in Invermore Place in Woolwich, south-east London at 4.15pm on Tuesday and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 4.55pm.

It happened just three days after a 15-year-old boy needed hospital treatment for a gunshot wound when he was shot in Burbage Close in Borough, south-east London.

Police believe the victim, who was black, may have been in an argument with a group of black males before receiving his injuries.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said police were keeping an open mind about the motive at this early stage.

A witness who telephoned an ambulance and stayed with the victim until the emergency services arrived described finding the youth's bloodied body as he returned home.

Speaking at his nearby home Paul Whisker, 53, said: "There was hardly any life in him at all.

"He was trying to get up and he couldn't. He was stumbling. He was obviously completely in shock.

"He had a lot of blood coming from his mouth. There was blood all over the road."
