Boy, seven, killed in river tragedy

12 April 2012

A boy has died after going missing in a North Wales river, police have said.

The seven-year-old had been reported missing at the River Dee in Connah's Quay at 3pm on Sunday and his body was found about three hours later.

Police said a massive search was launched for the boy, who was found at about 6pm and taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A spokesman for North Wales Police said: "The seven-year-old boy has now been found and he was rushed to hospital where, sadly, he was pronounced dead at 7.06pm."

It was not immediately clear how the boy, who has not been named, came to be in the river.

North Wales Police said the circumstances are still under investigation.

The spokeswoman added that his family was "devastated".
