The London vigilante dubbed the Bromley Batman stepped in to rescue a couple as they were allegedly attacked by three men – while he was on holiday in Cornwall.
The unnamed masked hero waded into a dispute between three men from Newcastle and a couple during a night out in Newquay.
“I was on holiday and I decided to go and patrol one night, not expecting to run into any trouble at all,” he told the Standard. “But I assumed the place that might need help would be Newquay because of its party town reputation.
“It didn't take long to come across lots of drunks and idiots fighting, but what caught my eye was a group of three men pushing people around while walking through town, so I started to watch them. That’s when they attacked this man who was with his partner – so I got into position and helped them.”
The masked hero said he could not recall the exact details of the altercation, adding events “just seemed to flow”.
The drama unfolded on Thursday at about 11pm, near the Walkabout bar, he added.
It has been reported the Good Samaritan identified himself to the grateful couple as the “Bromley Batman” – something he denies.
Earlier this year he said he preferred the name “The Shadow”, and wished to remain anonymous to protect his family.
“I’d never refer to myself as the Bromley Batman, or even The Shadow, when talking to victims of crime,” he said.
“I see it as my duty. I’ve trained in martial arts and learnt various relevant skills nearly all my life – why would I then choose to have those skills sitting dormant inside me when I can use them to help people?
“If more people stood up and took action when the time needed them, the world wouldn’t be in the complete mess it appears to be.”
“The Shadow” shot to fame earlier this year after reports of a bandana-clad crime fighter began to surface in and around Bromley, south-east London. After several people told how the mysterious man had helped them, he broke his three-year silence and revealed scant details about his work to the Standard.
