A businessman has been charged with shooting dead a man in his mansion, police said.

Arran Coghlan, 39, is accused of murdering Stephen Akinyemi, in his £2 million home on Brook Lane, Alderley Edge, Cheshire.

Mr Akinyemi, 44, from Cheetham Hill, Manchester, was discovered by police in the bathroom of Coghlan's mansion on Tuesday afternoon.

Coghlan, who was injured in the incident but discharged from hospital, will appear in court next week, police said.

Officers attended the incident after neighbours heard a disturbance.

A post mortem showed Mr Akinyemi died from being shot in the head, and he had also suffered stab injuries to his upper body.

Cheshire Police said more details about the court appearance will be released later.
