Cadet stabbing: Boy, 16, arrested

12 April 2012

Detectives investigating the killing of a teenage Army cadet have arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of murder.

Joseph Lappin, 16, was stabbed in the heart last week after attending a youth club in Everton, Merseyside.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said the 16-year-old boy from Kirkdale had been arrested and was in custody awaiting interview.

The arrest takes the number of people in custody to five.

On Wednesday, four others were arrested on suspicion of Joseph's murder, and like the latest arrest, the attempted murder of Callum Naden, 17.

The four were also from Kirkdale and aged 21, 20, 18 and 16.

Callum was stabbed twice in the attack on his friend Joseph and was described by officers as being very lucky to have survived.
