A 26-year-old man has been arrested after a car struck a group of people outside a nightclub, police said.

Fourteen people were taken to hospital after a motorist and his passenger mounted the pavement in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, in a stolen Saab.

Most have been released but three people remained in hospital, a police spokesman said.

The incident happened at 2.10am on Sunday outside the Dali Bar in Packer Street.

It is thought the men in the car had earlier been refused entry into the bar.

Seven men and seven women needed treatment for their injuries, none of which were believed to be life threatening.

The stolen car was later found in Albert Royds Street around two hours later.

The man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, a police spokesman said.

Officers were still searching for a 26-year-old man from the Rochdale area, he added. "The person we are looking for knows we want to speak to him so if anyone knows where he is they should call us," he said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0161 872 5050, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
