A cat born with facial deformities has become an online sensation after he defied the odds of survival after undergoing two major operations.

Silver tabby Mr Norris was physically disfigured after being born with a cleft palate so severe it caused difficulties with eating and drinking.

His owners were told it would be kinder to have him put down when he was two weeks old but they refused and the feline is now leading a healthy life after undergoing dental and reconstructive surgery.

Since his operation, Mr Norris has developed an online following on Facebook and experts say it is impossible to tell the affliction he previously suffered.

His owner, Sarah Ross co-founder of Sunny Harbour cat rescue centre in Lochgelly, Fife, said: “Every time we have an event there are always 150-plus people that show up to see him.

“People just love him – he’s like a feline celebrity.”

The surgery was carried out by veterinary dentistry specialist Norman Johnston, of Dental Vets in North Berwick, East Lothian, and Liz Welsh, of Vets Now Referrals in Glasgow.
