CCTV 'may show Woolmer's killer'

12 April 2012

Jamaican police said hotel security cameras may have captured images of the person or persons who killed Pakistan cricket coach Bob Woolmer.

The 58-year-old coach was murdered following his team's humiliating early exit from the World Cup.

Deputy Police Commissioner Mark Shields said police were still reviewing closed-circuit video from the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, including the 12th floor - where Woolmer was found strangled to death a week ago after Pakistan lost to Ireland on St Patrick's Day.

"It's critically important because it may give us an image of the killer or killers of Bob Woolmer," Shields said.

Woolmer was found dead in the bathroom of his room. Police say there was no sign of forced entry, suggesting the burly, affable Englishman probably knew who killed him.

So far no suspects have been identified. Shields, a former Scotland Yard investigator, said unfortunately the video shows only the corridors at the end of Woolmer's floor - not the door to his room or others.

"But at least it will give us a good indication of who went on those floors," he said.
