Channel 5 News has been forced to apologise after announcing the result of Celebrity MasterChef before it actually aired.

Tuesday night’s Christmas special episode saw comedian Judi Love crowned champion where she beat competition from Joey Essex, Neil Ruddock, Oti Mabuse and Su Pollard.

In a statement, Channel 5 News said: “We would like to say sorry for mistakenly announcing the winner of BBC1’s Celebrity Masterchef before it was revealed on the programme tonight.

“Apologies to all fans of the show.”

However fans took the mistake graciously. Among the comments, one wrote: “Any chance of revealing the lottery numbers in advance next time?”

Another added: “I caught that & appreciated it. was like catching the footie scores just before Match of the day starts”.

Others posted pictures of Bake Off’s Prue Leith.

The baking show host infamously accidentally revealed the winner of the programme in 2017 on Twitter before the finale aired.

Judi Love, who is a panellist on Loose Women, impressed MasterChef judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode with a Caribbean-themed Christmas dinner.

Another round of Celebrity MasterChef Christmas Cook-Off will air on BBC One on Thursday with a new batch of celebrities.

Oti Mabuse, who featured in the episode, was recently confirmed as a judge on Dancing on Ice, replacing John Barrowman in the role.
