A 92-year-old cyclist was pushed off her bike and robbed for £6 in an attack described as "sickening and cowardly".

The elderly woman suffered a fractured cheekbone and elbow and today police appealed for help to catch the mugger.

She was cycling along West Grove in Walton-on-Thames at about 7.15pm on Saturday when she was pushed off her bike by the man.

He was also on a bicycle.

The thief grabbed her handbag, which contained £6 in cash, cards and keys, before making off.

Detective Constable Katie Hanlon said: “This was a sickening and cowardly attack on an elderly and vulnerable woman who was simply going about her business when she was targeted.

“This woman has sustained nasty and serious injuries and has obviously been left shocked and shaken by the incident.

"The offender has only got away with £6 in this despicable attack.”

"We are appealing for anyone who saw what happened, or with any information about who the offender might be, to come forward as a matter of priority.

“If the person responsible is reading this, I urge them to do the right thing and hand themselves in to police urgently.”

Anyone with information should contact Surrey Police on 101, quoting crime reference 45160066098 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
