Death crash holidaymaker named

12 April 2012

A British holidaymaker who died in a crash when the minibus he was travelling in overturned in Egypt has been named as David Tansell, believed to be from Ludlow in Shropshire.

Mr Tansell was on a family trip with his wife Kim and daughter Ashley when the accident happened on Friday in Sinai near the Suez Canal.

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) confirmed Mr Tansell, who is thought to be in his mid-40s, had died.

Mrs Tansell and Ashley, and another passenger named only as Ms N Taylor, have minor injuries and are in hospital, the FCO said.

It added that the Honorary Consul in Suez has visited the three tourists in hospital and is providing assistance.

The FCO were not able to give any more details of those involved but it is believed the Tansells live in Ludlow, Shropshire.

Dr Abdulfattah Eissa from Suez Hospital said on Friday that the dead Briton was in his mid-40s.

The three surviving Britons and the driver of the minibus were taken to Suez Hospital after the accident, which local police said was apparently due to heavy rain and high winds.

Egyptian police said the minibus had been travelling back to Cairo from the resort of Taba on the Gulf of Aqaba at the time of the crash.

It overturned at Sadr el-Hetan, about 90 miles south of El Arish, the main town in north Sinai.
