Deaths show 'striking similarities'

12 April 2012

Police investigating the murder of two prostitutes whose bodies were found in the same stretch of water say there are "striking similarities" between the deaths.

Police have begun a linked murder investigation into the deaths of 25-year-old Gemma Adams and 19-year-old Tania Nicol after detectives confirmed on Saturday that a body discovered near Copdock Mill in Ipswich, Suffolk, was that of Ms Nicol.

It has emerged that the results of the initial post-mortem examinations into the two women's deaths were inconclusive.

Detectives said further tests would be needed to establish how they died and the results could take six weeks to come back.

Detective Chief Inspector John Quinton said there was no evidence that either woman had been sexually assaulted and there were no obvious signs of injury to either body.

He said forensic searches at Hintlesham, Suffolk, where Ms Adams' body was found last Saturday and at Copdock where Ms Nicols' body was discovered on Friday had been completed.
