Djokovic? He was small fry - now Andy Murray has to face Minnie the Minx

Thwack! The Wimbledon men's singles title will be as nothing compared to Andy Murray's latest accolade - appearing in an anniversary issue of The Beano.

Not only that, but he is the first British men’s Wimbledon champion to appear in the comic - though he has himself featured in it in the past.

In the anniversary edition, which goes on sale on July 24, Murray faces a dangerous opponent on the court: wild girl Minnie the Minx, all flying pigtails, hooped jersey and general ferociousness.

Craig Graham, editor of The Beano, said: “The Beano celebrates its 75th anniversary this year and we’ve been working hard to put together an extra special issue that is packed full of menacing, pranks and jokes.

“We always planned to include Andy Murray in this amazing issue but we’ve reworked the strip to reflect his historic Wimbledon win.

The Beano has featured famous British faces in past issues including the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, who are known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland.

The Beano is, of course, published in Scotland by DC Thomson - another reason for it to celebrate Mr Murray.

Other famous names such as Simon Cowell, Chris Evans and Olympic heptathlete Jessica Ennis have also appeared in the comic in the past.
