Driver faces pushchair death charge

12 April 2012

A woman is due to appear in court accused of causing the death of a 15-month-old boy killed when a four-wheel-drive car mounted the kerb and hit his pushchair.

Katie Gutierruez-Perez, 39, of Selwyn Road, Chingford, east London, will also face a charge of driving under the influence of drink or drugs, police said.

Victim Finlay Woods was with his mother and grandmother when a black Toyota left the road in Chingford.

The youngster, who lived a short distance away, was taken to Whipps Cross Hospital by ambulance but died soon after arrival.

Firefighters said they were called to reports of a child trapped under a car, but bystanders freed him before they arrived.

Gutierruez-Perez will appear at Redbridge Magistrates' Court charged with three offences under the Road Traffic Act.
