The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge geared up for Wales’ rugby clash with France by throwing a few passes around with some Paris schoolchildren.

William and Kate showed off their skills with the oval ball as they joined youngsters

from local clubs being put through their paces in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower.

And when the couple chatted to parents from a British school who were watching their efforts they revealed George has a toy rabbit called Bun Bun.

The royal couple will watch the two teams play in the six nations clash later after the Duke – patron of the Welsh Rugby Union – was invited to attend.

William went first during the drill session, catching a ball from a youngster and then passing it on as he quickly moved forward.

He was followed by Kate who was laughing as she took a pass and then threw the ball to one of the children before catching another ball and moving it on.

Rugby coach Maxime Ramiroz praised the Cambridges’ ball skills: “They were very good it was good to share a pass with the Duke of Cambridge.”

He said they chatted about the rugby match: “He said Wales would win and I said France – we didn’t bet a beer on it, but maybe next time.”

Later the royals chatted to Zena and Graeme Hilton who had been watching the open-air drill practice at Paris’ Trocadero.

The couple, who moved to France at the start of the year for work, had brought their children, Anna, aged four and one-year-old Toby to the event.

Mrs Hilton said: “Kate was interested in my daughter’s toy monkey she was holding and said that George had a toy rabbit called Bum Bum.”
