Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's aide is honoured by the Queen

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s top aide, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, was today honoured for services to the royal family.

The ex-SAS officer was handed the Lieutenant of the Victorian Order, a personal gift from the Queen and regarded as a higher rank than an OBE. Mr Lowther-Pinkerton, 52, said: “It is honour enough to work for the royal family.”

He joined the royal household in 2005 and is principal private secretary to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry. He is seen a safe pair of hands and credited with guiding the young royals.

He is often seen walking just behind them on official duties at home and abroad. He was already a Member of the Victorian Order for services as Equerry to the Queen Mother in 1986, and was made an MBE in 1990 for services with the Special Forces in Colombia.

The married father of four lives in Suffolk. His son William, 10, was a pageboy at William and Kate’s wedding. Mr Lowther-Pinkerton was honoured today along with designer Stella McCartney and Olympians Victoria Pendleton and Alistair Brownlee.
