Prince William today hailed two hero London police officers who saved the life of a six-year-old girl as he marked Emergency Services Day.

PC Ryan Legge and PC Ahmet Mavitunali discovered a flat where a girl was being held before bravely forcing entry knowing they were facing a violent suspect inside.

They found the girl Noura fighting for life from knife wounds and apprehended the man, her father, who had also inflicted wounds on himself.

The officers provided emergency first aid before the arrival of paramedics, who rushed her to hospital, where she stayed for three months.

The girl has since made a full recovery. The officers also helped recovered evidence that led to her father’s conviction and 22 year prison sentence.

Today the Duke of Cambridge met the two hero officers and the girl at Dockhead Fire Station.

The meeting was also the first time the girl had met the officers who have been credited with saving her life.

North West BCU Commander, Sara Leach, said: “I am immensely proud of Ahmet and Ryan, whose actions at the scene were crucial in helping Noura in this sad and shocking case.

“This was a violent assault on a young girl by a person who should have been looking after her. It is quite right that both officers be recognised for their quick thinking under what must have been extremely distressing circumstances. They, along with Noura, should be commended for their bravery and resilience.

“It is really special that Noura and the officers are able to meet at this event, and it will I’m sure be an emotional moment for all.”

The Duke of Cambridge met a number of emergency responders – from Fire Service, the Police, Ambulance and RNLI - accompanied by members of the public who received their life-saving support.

During the visit William was told about the brave actions taken by other emergency responders.

The included hero firefighters who rescued 35 people from the fire in May this year at tower block New Providence Wharf in Tower Hamlets.

The Duke is also holding a meeting with emergency responders today at Kensington Palace on the topic of suicide prevention within the emergency services community.

The meeting comes ahead of World Suicide Prevention Day tomorrow (10 September).

Kensington Palace said the Duke of Cambridge is committed to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of the emergency services community, which continues to be an important part of his work through The Royal Foundation.

He has witnessed the challenges that emergency responders face on a daily basis during his roles as both an Air Ambulance and RAF Search and Rescue pilot.
