Ed Sheeran has submitted plans to construct a burial chamber under a private church on his Suffolk estate.

The Shape of You singer, 30, wants to dig the 2.7m by 1.8m plot, enough to fit two bodies and concealed under a slab in the floor.

The plans for the boat-shaped church described as a “place of retreat for contemplation and prayer” have been approved but Sheeran wants to amend it to include the burial space, according to The Times.

His main property is a sprawling 16-acre estate near Framlingham, Suffolk, worth a reported £3.7m, which he shares with his wife Cherry Seaborn and their infant daughter Lyra Antarctica.

The estate has been nicknamed “Sheeran-ville” and includes a main house, which he bought in 2012, along with three adjacent houses.

The private village compound has its own pub in a converted barn accessed by an underground tunnel from the hall.

Sheeran-ville boasts a fruit orchard, heart-shaped pond, luxury treehouse, recording studio. and greenhouse, as well as an indoor swimming pool and fitness complex.

In 2019 he requested permission to add a “place of worship” which his planning application said would “address an important need for a private place of retreat for contemplation and prayer”.
